A small group of Widener University students recently traveled to Spain to culminate a Spring 2016 course offered through the university's School of Business Administration that examined sport marketing from a global perspective.

Fifteen incoming freshmen at Widener University have been selected for the Presidential Service Corps/Bonner Leaders Program. Select freshmen are chosen each year for the Presidential Service Corps/Bonner Leader Program based on their high school academic record, commitment to serving their communities, and leadership potential. Students in the program volunteer 300 hours of service with a community partner in the city of Chester each year, and commit to an annual international service trip for alternative spring break. In addition, students participate in training and enrichment activities that help them develop leadership skills. The following incoming freshmen from the area were selected this year:

Nine Widener University freshmen have been named Apogee Scholars by the Oskin Leadership Institute at Widener recognizing their high potential for leading change on campus and in their communities. The students are also recipients of the Widener High School Leadership Award and received a $20,000 scholarship to attend Widener.

The residents listed below earned their associate's, bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees from Widener University during the annual Commencement ceremonies on May 20 and 21. The university presented degrees to August 2015, December 2015 and May 2016 graduates during the ceremonies.

Law students at Widener University Commonwealth Law School were recognized at the annual Student Awards Ceremony held on April 27, 2016.

Five Widener University students were commissioned as a second lieutenants in the U.S. Army through the ROTC program at Widener University.

The annual Widener University Delaware Law School Student Awards Ceremony was held April 20, 2016.

Awarded in recognition of exemplary service to the law school.

This new scholarship was created in memory of Daniel F. Clark, who held many public service positions, while maintaining his private law practice. The criteria for this award included writing a maximum 800 word essay, and answering a variety of questions including "What is your dream job?" and "Who/what, in your life, has influenced you to go to law school?"

Students inducted into Phi Eta Sigma

The following students were recognized as members of Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Management Society during Honors Week at Widener University:

A seven-member team from Widener University had a strong showing recently in the second annual Collegiate Leadership Competition. The team finished second among six teams at the competition held April 8-9 at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Widener University, one of the nation's premier universities for civic engagement and applied leadership, today announced the winners of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards. In its fifth year, the program recognized 158 students from high schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware who demonstrated courage and leadership within their communities.

Widener University students recently traveled to Antwerp, Belgium, to participate in EuroSim, a simulation of the governing process of the European Union. The students prepared prior to the simulation to understand the focus of this year's EuroSim: the Dublin IV immigration and asylum regulation.

The event aimed to showcase NAC&U member institutions' approach to teaching and learning, which is the integration of liberal education, professional studies and civic engagement to prepare students for careers and lives as contributing, global citizens.
