Widener University students recently returned from a semester abroad. Widener is committed to offering study away experiences for students to help them gain a global perspective.

Fifteen of Widener Law's newest alumni from the school's Wilmington, Del. campus took their oaths and were inducted into the Pennsylvania Bar Association recently at a ceremony for Widener Law graduates.

Fourteen freshmen at Widener University have been selected for the Presidential Service Corps/Bonner Leader Program. Nicolette Epifani had become immersed in service since arriving on Widener's campus as a member of the Presidential Service Corps. The idea that she could also focus her coursework on making a difference appealed to her. Her instinct told her that this was the major for her. Now as a sophomore, Epifani is Widener's first sociology major with a civic engagement and social change concentration.

Three Widener University English scholars had the chance to become immersed in the life and work of British Romantic poet William Wordsworth recently. They traveled to the Lake District in North West England, Wordsworth's birthplace and the inspiration for much of his writing, to attend the 43rd Wordsworth Summer Conference.

Six Widener University freshmen have been named Apogee Scholars by the Oskin Leadership Institute at Widener for their high potential for leading change on campus and in their communities. The students are also recipients of the Widener High School Leadership Award and received a $20,000 scholarship to attend Widener. The Apogee Scholars include:

SummaryShanna Williams, LCSW, MEd, of Drexel Hill, PA was recently named director of Social Work Counseling Services (SWCS) at Widener University. Williams is a Widener alumna. She received her bachelors of social work in 2006 and both her masters of social work and of human sexuality education in 2010.

Widener Law celebrated the success of 20 distinguished alumni Monday, June 16 as they were admitted to the Supreme Court Bar at a hearing in Washington, D.C. Alumna Cynthia Ryan '79 stood before the nine justices of the Supreme Court and moved for the group's admission. She named each Widener Law attorney individually as the alumni rose to their feet and were welcomed into the prestigious legal group.

Three Widener University students enrolled in the School of Business Administration teamed up for the first international student idea contest hosted by Software AG's University Relations department. Their idea to use Software AG's Presto to enhance athletic performance earned them third place in the international competition, tied with a team from the University of California-Berkeley, and a trip to New Orleans to present their idea at Software AG's Innovation World 2014 conference in October.

Stephen C. Doyle of West Chester, Pa., was commissioned as a second lieutenant of the U.S. Army through the ROTC program at Widener University. He graduated from Widener on May 17 with a degree in criminal justice.
