Widener University, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10 and Telemundo62, is proud to recognize the 107 winners of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards for 2022. Over more than a decade, the university has recognized more than 1,400 students from high schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware who demonstrated leadership within their communities.

Widener University announced the students named to its homecoming court for 2021. Homecoming was celebrated over the week of Oct. 11, and culminated with the football game at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 16. The court was presented at halftime.

Widener's 12th-annual Summer Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Symposium was held Sept. 24, 2021. The research represented a variety of academic disciplines and showcased Widener's robust undergraduate research opportunities. Eleven students and 10 faculty advisors were honored for having the best presentations and research.

Widener University Center for Education students have created a mini library to provide Chester residents with easy, free access to new books. The Little Free Library - erected on the corner of Melrose Ave. and E. 17th St. - officially opened on Saturday, Jan. 23.

The Widener University Band is proud to announce four students performed in the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Intercollegiate Marching Band (IMB). They joined nearly 1,500 nominated performers from 200 bands in 45 states and Puerto Rico, all working together to produce a virtual college marching band show.

Widener University has recognized area high school students for outstanding leadership and civic contributions. In partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, the university's awards program has honored 160 students from high schools throughout the region for their abilities to stand up for what is right, address a wrong and make a difference in their communities or schools. Honorees gathered for a virtual award event Friday, Nov. 6 where they heard remarks from NBC10's Tracy Davidson, Widener University President Julie E. Wollman and others, including Jason LeVasseur, a leadership speaker and workshop facilitator, who gave the keynote address.

Widener University junior Juliette DiFlumeri was selected to participate in the Summer Undergraduate Program for Educating Radiation Scientists (SUPERS) hosted by the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Widener University Robotics Team hosted a VEX U Robotics competition on January 17-19. The event welcomed collegiate robotics teams from Rutgers University, College of Southern Maryland, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) to compete against one another to qualify for a seat at the coveted VEX U Robotics World Tournament. Widener's team placed first in the competition and received the prestigious Excellence Award. The win was the second consecutive victory for the team after previously securing a spot to this year's Robotics World Tournament at an earlier competition hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). The team will move on to compete against 1,200 of the best student-led teams from around the world to earn the title of robotics world champion this April in Louisville, Kentucky.

Widener University students traveled to Costa Rica for a winter break trip from Dec. 29 - Jan. 7. Led by Professors Stephen Madigosky and Beatriz Urraca, the students learned about coffee production and the culture of Costa Rica.

Fifty-three undergraduate student researchers, along with their faculty mentors, presented their projects in University Center. The research represented a variety of academic disciplines and showcased Widener's robust research opportunities.

Widener University was pleased to welcome 14 students in the 2019 freshmen class who have enrolled at the university as Apogee Scholars. Apogee Scholars are recognized by the Oskin Leadership Institute at Widener for their high potential to lead positive change on campus and in their communities. The students were all recipients of Widener High School Leadership Awards, and each received a $20,000 scholarship to attend Widener.
