Widener junior Husam Shabazz toured the White House

2018 Feb 27

As part of a shared political engagement and sustainability trip, Widener University junior Husam Shabazz of Silver Springs, MD toured the White House on Feb. 15.

The private tour was led by David Almacy, a member of the Widener Communication Studies Advisory Board and a 1992 graduate who served under former President George W. Bush as the White House internet and e-communications director.

It was a unique experience for the 16 students in CHEM 120 and SSCI 288 and four faculty - Associate Professors Angela Corbo, Andrea Martin and J. Wesley Leckrone and Professor Loyd Bastin.

Following the tour, the students and faculty went to the American Chemical Society's Green Chemistry Institute in Washington, D.C., for a discussion on sustainability and advocacy programs.
