Widener Law graduates join PA bar in Philadelphia City Hall ceremony

2014 Dec 16

Fifteen of Widener Law's newest alumni from the school's Wilmington, Del. campus took their oaths and were inducted into the Pennsylvania Bar Association recently at a ceremony for Widener Law graduates.

Four alumni judges presided over the Dec. 4 event, officially named the Widener University School of Law Hon. Charles P. Mirarchi Jr. Pennsylvania Bar Induction Ceremony.

Judge Paul P. Panepinto '76 of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Civil Trial Division, gave the keynote, while other remarks came from Judge George W. Overton, '86, of the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas Civil Trial Division, Administrative Judge Margaret T. Murphy, '77, of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Family Division and Judge Joel S. Johnson, '91, of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Family Division. Alumnus William P. Fedullo, '76, chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, moved for the graduates' admissions.

The event had a distinct Widener flair, with Interim Dean Erin Daly noting how the school is often referred to as a family. It has a support system that moves students through their studies and successfully into the working world.

"On days like today, that feeling of family really is true," she said.

The inductees were all May 2014 graduates of the Delaware campus. They included:

Marcia Leach, of Trenton, N.J.. She is married to Brian Leahy and is the daughter of the late Martin and Helen Itzcowitz. Leach plans to work in public interest law.

The induction ceremony was officially named in honor of Mirarchi in 2010. He was a founding member of the law school's early parents' association, a strong financial supporter of Widener Law and had served as both a member of the school's Board of Overseers and on its adjunct faculty. Mirarchi founded the school's annual bar induction ceremony for new Pennsylvania lawyers in Philadelphia. He died in May 2010.
