Taylor of Philadelphia Travels to Spain with Widener University Honors Course

2015 Jan 27

Tim Taylor from Philadelphia, Pa., a junior Accounting major at Widener University in Chester, Pa., recently spent the winter break studying in Spain. Taylor traveled to Spain through a Widener School of Business Administration honors course led by Dr. Mary Shoemaker, associate professor.

Taylor and classmates primarily stayed in the city of Salamanca, but also spent two nights in Madrid and took day trips to Avila, Segovia, Valladolid and smaller villages. They toured castles and cathedrals and drove a Twizy electric car. In addition to sightseeing, they got an in-depth look at some Spanish businesses, which included tours of the Renault factory and a ham factory in addition to a food safety testing facility and El Cortes Ingles, a major Spanish retailer.

Taylor and the other Widener students also talked with Spanish youth specifically about the unemployment rate, which reportedly affects 40 percent of the country's young people.

The trip helped the Widener students both explore a new economy and learn about and adapt to a different culture and customs.
