Samuel Martin of Allentown Presents Academic Research at Regional History Conference

2014 Apr 7

Samuel Martin of Allentown, Pa. attended the eastern regional conference of Phi Alpha Theta, History Honors Society, held at Shippensburg University. Martin, a senior history major at Widener University, presented academic research alongside two peers from Widener in the panel titled "Labor and Unionization in Pennsylvania." Martin's part of the presentation was based on research titled The Philadelphia Show: Workers' Theatre Groups in Philadelphia during the 1930s.

Martin also attended multiple research panels during the day, and met and chatted with history majors and graduate students from more than 20 participating universities.

"In my view, the students distinguished themselves in many ways, in presenting their research and in discussing and critiquing the research," said Dr. Rachel Batch, an associate professor of history at Widener. "This conference is about learning more historical research and also about networking. Students see the workings of a profession and begin to see themselves as professionals."
