Kun Jiang of Swarthmore Presents Research Conducted at Widener University on a National Stage

2014 Apr 10

Kun Jiang, a senior mathematics/computer science major at Widener University from Swarthmore, Pa., delivered an oral presentation on research he has conducted as a student titled "Using the Raspberry Pi as a Continuous Medical Monitor" on April 4 at the 2014 Council on Undergraduate Research Conference.

Jiang worked with a classmate at Widener to use Raspberry Pi devices to monitor and record a subject's health data to correlate with weather data they collected to determine if there is a direct causal relationship between headache episodes and weather patterns. Jiang is currently in the analysis phase of this project after collecting three months of data using the Raspberry Pi devices.

Jiang is looking to determine if there is a correlation between severe headache episodes and weather patterns in his subject who has a malformation of the brain. If so, he hopes that doctors who treat patients with similar conditions will become aware of this correlation and consider it when developing patient treatment plans.
